Before Half-Life: Valve's Submarine Game

Submarine

Valve is well known for many things -- Steam, Portal, Team Fortress. Above all else, however, it made its mark with the original Half-Life in 1998. But what was there before Half-Life?

Prospero has been talked about before; it was an action-adventure game that was intended to come out not long after Half-Life. During an interview with the Steamcast earlier this month, co-founder Gabe Newell was asked if Valve would ever return to work on Prospero. He didn't completely shoot down the possibility, and in the process, revealed one of Valve's earliest projects that has never come to fruition.

"Well a lot of the ideas for Propsero have sort of influenced our other games subsequently," he explained. "So, you know, whether or not we actually go back and do that specific game I don't know, it actually has a lot of appeal to us, we're all sort of fond of it. Nothing every really dies here, it's just a question how long until we get around to doing it."
